Fitted with a full QWERTY keyboard, the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos B5512 has a candy bar style design. The 2.6 inch screen has a TFT capacitive touchscreen that is quite small for regular use. There is a track pad in the middle of the device if you would prefer to use this to navigate around the device. Made out of a plastic body, it has been textured to feel quite good in your hands. Weighing in at roughly 112.3gms, the build quality is very solid.
Samsung has put its standard TouchWiz interface on the B5512 to make it easy to operate. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the brains behind the operating system. Due to the slow 832 MHz processor, the device does not handle multitasking or swapping applications very well.
Your text messages will show up in chat-style due to the threaded view texting. Sending and receiving multimedia will be no issue on the Galaxy Y Pro B5512. There is access to instant messages for those who use Yahoo Messenger, MSN, and others. Email set-up can be done via the email or Gmail app that come standard on the device.
A standard gallery will allow you to view, edit, delete, or upload your photos. The editing features are fairly basic, allowing features such as cropping at be at your fingertips. A video player will let you play MP4, WMV, and H.264 file formats with ease.
An FM stereo with RDS will provide you with the latest news and a good range of FM radio stations. You can load your own music in MP3, WAV, and eAAC+ format instead if you prefer. The audio quality of Galaxy Y Pro is very good regardless of whether it is via the loudspeaker or earpiece. The headphones that provided work rather well, but you can use your own 3.5mm headphones if you prefer.
This is an area where the B5512 will lack in. There is a basic 3.2 MP main camera and a VGA front facing camera. This is very low considering the price point of this device. The lack of an auto focus and LED flash dooms the device to poor image quality.
If you are expected a better experience via the video camera, you will also be sorely disappointed. The B5512 records at 24 frames per second.
If you are on a 2G network, you can gain access to the internet with either GPRS or EDGE technologies. The B5512 is also 3G enabled for faster browsing speeds. If you have Wi-fi that will enable the best browsing speeds. Equipped with Bluetooth and USB, exchanging files and data with other devices is simple.
The pricing for the B5512 starts at Rs. 8500 (approx., may vary). Overall, the B5512 is really a solid device at this price point. The camera and low internal memory are what keeps it from being great. A dual SIM Android device with a full keyboard is hard to come by, so if you overlook these weaknesses, the B5512 is your handset of choice.
