A brushed-metal finish gives the Optimus GT540 a premium feel. The bar style resistive touchscreen is about the same size as the iPhone 4. Despite the premium feel, the fact that LG used a resistive touchscreen works against it. These types of displays aren't sensitive enough to touch inputs and don't support multi-touch.
An ancient 1.6 Android operating system is found on the Optimus GT540. Any decent user-interface enhancements such as an updated browser will be unavailable. Luckily there is still access to the /android market for downloading new applications. There are a total of seven home screens and a couple LG widget add-ons.
Text messages will show up in threaded view for a chat style feel. Multimedia messages can also be sent and received on the Optimus GT540. Email support is available with push email feature. You can also sign into your instant messaging apps such as Yahoo and MSN.
A gallery will allow you to view your pictures, as well as ones that are sent to you. The video player can play files in MP4, DivX, Xvid, H.254, H.263, and WMV.
You can load your microSD full of your music in MP3, WAV, WMA, or eAAC+ format to listen to the device on the go. There is also an FM radio to tune your GT540 into if you prefer listening to a local station. Via the 3.5mm headphone jack, you can get a crisp, sound quality.
A 3.2MP camera will do an adequate job at taking shots in the outdoors. There is also a face detection feature. Unfortunately, LG missed out on adding a flash so you will need good lighting conditions in order for your shots to not look dark.
The video camera will take VGA quality at 17 frames per second.
A 2G GSM network in 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz bands can all be connected to the GT540. IN addition, there is 3G HSDPA support in 850, 900, and 2100 hands. Wi-fi 802.11, Bluetooth 2.1, and microUSB support will give you plenty of options for transferring files.
There are some basic organization tools readily available on the GT540 including an organizer, document viewer, and voice memo. Of course, with access to the Android market, you can download other tools.
A basic HTML browser will allow you to surf the wide world web.
Google Maps is the native GPS that comes standard on the GT540.
The GT540 is available for Rs. 10997 (approx., may vary). A talk time of up to five and a half hours is what the GT540 is rated. The call quality is also very solid. Despite this, the GT540 is simply too dated with the 1.6 Android operating system and hard to use resistive touchscreen.
