Spice Mi-355 Stellar Craze was a much-awaited phone in the line of budget Android phones. The phone has many features but does not entirely live up to the expectations. Given below is the detailed review of the phone.
The phone has a smooth and glossy finish. The best part is that the back does not scratch easily. The keys on the left and top of the device are not very comfortable to use and show have had more depth. The screen of the phone is 3.5 inch, total dimensions are 4.65 x 2.44 x 0.45 in, and the phone weighs a mere 80grams. The weight of the phone is a plus point in its favour since most of the phones today weight over 100grmas. The phone is solidly built and feels comfortable in hand. The battery life of the phone lasts only for 4 hours with full talk time. The battery life is a drawback of the phone.
The phone is a little behind its times as it comes with the Gingerbread Android software with an option to upgrade to the latest Android 4.0. The phone has a 512MB of RAM with only 210MB of RAM available for user. The phone’s screen has a 320×480 resolution, which is very basic and not very impressive. The viewing angle is very narrow and you have to old the phone at one particular angle to be able to see the screen clearly.
The call quality on the phone is average. Both 2G and 3G are available on the phone. The phonebook is filled with features but the process of the phone and the lack of RAM do not give it a very fast access speed. The phone is dual SIM and only one SIM slot is available for 3G SIM.
Messaging and email on the phone work very well. The keyboard is well placed and easy to use. We even tried Swype on the phone and it worked fast.
Photo viewer of the phone does not offer many options other than zoom crop and rotate. You can get additional features using the various apps. The video player supports all formats. The screen is not ideal for video playback but small videos can be watched with ease. The video player plays without hitch.
Music on the phone is not very good and the audio playback is shaky sometimes but otherwise it is ok. The music player supports all formats and you can easily shuffle around the music settings.
The rear camera on the phone is 5MP and is very basic. The focus of the camera is often off key and the photos turn out to be average. Dual LED flash is a good feature of the phone. The front camera is .3MP and supports video recording. You can use the camera for Skype and video calls.
Video recording resolution of the phone is 352×288, which is way below the standard. The recording is very basic with no frills attached.
WLAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, GPRS, Edge, and 3G are the features available on the phone. Connectivity is generally good but 3G connections are not very constant.
The organiser is basic and the tools include calendar, alarm, world clock, clock, calculator, and convertor. Gaming is a good experience on the phone. The accelerometer is good and you can easily play games like Temple run.
Browser on the phone leaves a lot to be desired. Zooming in to read the text will distort the pictures. Phone is SNS ready. The applications include Google, Gmail, YouTube, Facebook and Google talk.
A-GPS on the phone works well with the Google Maps. You can use all the features of the maps easily.
The price of the phone in Indian Market is INR 6000 (approx., may vary). The performance of the phone is quite decent but poor battery and video recording pulls down the value of money of the phone.
