Sony Xperia C is a mid-range phone smartphone. It has almost all the features of a smartphone but compromises on the screen resolution and camera properties. The detailed review is given below.
The phone has a very modern and attractive build. On first look, it looks like any other Sony Xperia phone but the difference is noticeable when you turn the phone around. It has a very soft back casing, which covers almost the whole of the back and sides. The phone is very comfortable to use and does not slip from the grip. The 5-inch screen is almost edge-to-edge. The back of the cover is slightly tapered in the centre. The battery of the phone will last you comfortably for at least 14 hours, which is very impressive.
The phone has a powerful quad core process, which makes the phone’s responses snappy and quick. Other feature includes a 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage and Android 4.2.2 Jellybean software. The screen resolution is 960x540 pixels, which saves a lot of battery life. The battery of the phone is inbuilt. The phone’s screen leaves some space around so that you can handle the screen comfortably.
The phone supports dual SIM operation (both 2G and 3G). The main slot supports 3G SIM and the second one is for 2G only. The call quality of the phone is good. The phone book is simple and without extra frills.
MMS, SMS, Threaded view, Email and IM are the features available on the phone. The on screen keyboard has comfortably spaced keys for fast typing. Swype and predictive text input make it easy to type long mails and messages.
The video player on the phone supports MP4/H.263/H.264 formats. The player is good and can even play videos from the SD card. The photo viewer has all the basic functions and social media sharing options.
Music has always been a very strong point of Sony phones and this phone fulfills that promise. The music through the earphones and loudspeaker both is very good. The music player plays almost all the formats. The FM radio comes with RDS and recording feature.
The phone has an 8MP camera with auto focus camera with Exmor R sensor and LED flash. The camera photos are usable but not great. Sweep panorama is another feature of the camera. The front camera is basic the VGA configuration for chats and video calls.
Video can be recorded using the cameras on the phone but their quality is average.
There are many connectivity options on the phone. These include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, 3G, and GPRS. Wi-Fi hotspot and NFC is also available on the phone.
Various tools include document viewer, clock, alarm, calendar, calculator, support fitness, Active Sync, and video streaming. The organiser is very simple to use and has features like alarm and reminders work very well.
HTML 5 android browser is available on the phone. The browser is very crisp and supports pinch to zoom and double tap features. Applications on the phone include Google, YouTube, Facebook, mail, and games.
The phone has A-GPS, which takes about 30seconds to lock in if you are in the network range. Google maps are the default map application on the phone.
The phone has currently been launched in China only and will be released soon in Asian markets. The phone is expected to be priced around INR 18000 (approx., may vary) in Indian market.
We would rate the phone 3.8 out of 5 stars.
