Samsung Star Superb is a touch screen candy bar style device which may not amaze people, but it does look good and has a solid build quality. It has a volume rocker, screen lock/unlock button, and camera shutter on the sides of the device. The shape of the phone allows for a proper grip and has a matted back.
The 5560 comes with Samsung's TouchWiz 2.0 interface that allows you to create three separate pages. You can place widgets on these screens such as kelkoo search service, currency converter, and others. These widgets will lag slightly when used due to the fact that it has to hop on the internet to update.
With the possibility of adding up to 2000 entries, you will be able to have plenty of space to keep your information on friends, family, and colleagues. There is also photo call which enables you to save the picture of each contact so it appears when they call.
One drawback of the Star Superb is that it doesn't allow for automated email account setup. This means that even if you use a major service provider such as Yahoo or Gmail, you can't connect your emails to your device directly. As for messaging, you have two keyboard layouts to help get the job done. You can choose between the standard numeric and landscape QWERTY. The latter is beneficial for those who are used to texting on a QWERTY style keyboard or have thick fingers.
Video playback on the 5560 is limited to MPEG-4 and H.264 files. If their resolution exceeds QVGA, they are not playable.
Audio quality via the earphones that come with the Star Superb will be slightly lower than via the speakers. It is very sharp, so you will want to turn down the volume if you are going to listening for a long period of time. The album are will be visualized on half the screen and control keys are very good. There is also an FM radio with RDS for listening to FM stations.
Built with a 5MP camera, the details will show up as long as you take shots in good lighting conditions. The colors will be slightly over saturated though not to the level that it would be annoying.
You are able to get on GSM networks 850, 900, 800, and 1900 MHz bands. There is no access to 3G which is a huge downside. You can access Wi-Fi so that is recommended when you want to use the device on the internet.
The built-in browser is Web kit based that allows for smooth scrolling and zooming. There are also dedicated Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace applications with widgets that yo use put on your screen to start them up.
The battery life can provide up to 9.5 hours of continuous talk time.
Overall, there is nothing that stands out on the Star Superb. There are even lower-end models that have some better functionality than the 5560. For this reason, this device should be avoided.
