Encased in a 3 inch capacitive touchscreen, the candy bar style Samsung Star 3 is similarly styled as the Galaxy Series devices. Its compact and lightweight decide has a quality built.
The software under the Samsung Star is Samsung's own proprietary TouchWiz Lite 2.0. It allows a simplified approach to users that will be easy to pick up and use.
The phonebook memory allows for up to 1000 entries on the device.
A virtual QWERTY keyboard enables you to quickly input characters for messaging and email purposes. With the capacity to store up to 500 text messages, you will not have to go through the device and erase messages frequently. This device supports push mail feature so you can send and receive emails in real time.
A multi-format video player will allow you to watch videos on your device. H.263 and H.264 videos will look and sound relatively good.
A built-in FM radio will pick up the nearest radio channels for listening purposes. You can also record live radio with the FM recording feature. The music player will support MP3 and WAV formats. For better audio quality, you will want to connect to a headphone or external speaker via the 3.5 mm audio jack.
A 3MP resolution camera will be satisfactory at best. Lighting conditions will have an impact on the overall quality. With this type of device, it is better to have an alternative for taking pictures.
You have several connectivity options with the Samsung Star. Tethering is available via the USB and Wi-Fi connectivity. You can hop on GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. The Star 3 S5222 Duos features Dual-SIM functionality.
Just about every utility feature is available on the Samsung Star. You have your calendar, scheduler, to-do list, clock, world time, alarm, calculator, stopwatch, countdown timer, and currency converter.
The browser has Opera Mini using WAP 2.0 and Net Front 4.2 so browsing will be a good experience on the device, though you may want to ensure you are using Wi-fi for speed purposes. There are a slew of pre-loaded apps including Facebook, Yahoo, group chat, buddies, Chat ON IM, and others.
GPS is not a supported feature on the Samsung Star.
Talk time is extremely good on the device, with a delivery on 14 hours of talk time and 520 hours of standby. An expandable memory via microSD card will give you up to 16 GB of additional space. There are also some pre-loaded games that will help you pass time.
The Samsung Star has just about every feature possible on a non-smartphone device and also comes with option of Dual SIM connectivity. If you are looking for a solid device at a decent price, the Samsung Star delivers great value for the price.
