Based on Windows Phone 7, the Samsung Omnia 7 is an all touch bar style device. The tapered edges around the screen make the device much more comfortable. It has a solid build quality that will feel very much like the popular Galaxy S series devices.
Windows 7 allows users to customize their home screen by putting “tiles” that serve different functions in the order that they want. The capacitive touchscreen makes it easy to navigate on the device.
The gallery allows you to store pictures and with Photo Sharing, you are able to upload your pictures and share them online. The video player works smoothly on the Omnia 7 and the sound quality is adequate for most viewing experiences.
The music player's audio performance is also very good. The loudspeaker works well, though you will probably not be blasting your music very where you go. A stereo FM radio with RDS allows you to listen to your favourite station on the go.
A 5MP camera takes very pleasing still shots. The pictures will turn out sharp and have accurate color reproduction. In some lighting conditions, you may have a bit of trouble focusing properly. There is also a variety of setting such as metering; wide dynamic range, anti-shaking, and ISO, that will help improve the experience.
Video quality will also turn out very good in good lighting conditions. You are able to take video at 720p at 25 frames per second.
There are a number of connectivity options on the Omnia 7. On GSM bands, you can use it on 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. You also have access to 3G networks with HSDPA 900 and 2100 bands.
There is an organizer, voice memo, and document viewer/editor that come on the device. You can download additional tools via the Microsoft marketplace.
As expected, the Windows-based Omnia 7 comes with Internet Explorer 8 for your web browsing needs. It also has Facebook integration so your contacts on your social network can be a part of your device.
Equipped with Bing Maps, the app runs very smooth and allows pinch zooming. There is no support for voice-guided directions thus far. GPS is very accurate and reliable.
Office Hub is your rouse for documents on your device. You can use features in Word Mobile like word correction, find, and place comments. However, there seems to be a lack of some finishing touches such as formatting options. You can also create, view, and edit Excel files and view and edit PowerPoint presentations. The One Note software will allows you to take notes or collaborate via SharePoint.
Overall, the Samsung Omnia 7 is a reliable device that gives you access to some solid work features. Their Marketplace is not as expansive as Android, but you will be able to find what you need for your needs.
