Samsung Gear S is a water and dust resistant smartwatch as well as smartphone released in October, 2014. It is the first company's standalone watch that makes calls with a few caveats. Previously, Samsung has released many smartwatches such as Gear, Gear 2 etc. Gear S has a SIM card slot, phone number and the data connection. It doesn't need a Bluetooth connection with any handset. It is a Solo smartwatch on a go. It is being featured with gyro sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer sensor, barometer sensor, compass sensor, heart rate sensor and UV light sensor.

Coming onto the features and specifications of this smartwatch, it houses a 2- inch Super AMOLED display with 360x480 pixel resolution, offering the device a respectable pixel density of 300 ppi. The whole device is curved, not only the screen, one can really see it if you pop the business end of the Samsung Gear S out of its rubber strap. At the back side there is a small mic and speaker in order to make voice calls. With a rectangular face and physical home button at the bottom, the device looks like a little tiny smartphone. The device has got a QWERTY keyboard which makes typing easy.

The device has a steel body which is measured as 58.1x39.9x12.5mm and weighs at 67 grams. It is supplemented by 1.0 GHz dual core processor and runs on Tizen-based wearable platform. It has an internal memory of 4 GB and RAM of 512 MB. For the connectivity options it comes loaded with 2G, 3G networks, USB, Wi-Fi and GPS. This device is not only connected to other smartphones via Bluetooth, but also over the internet. The Gear S allows you to send and receive texts, can make calls and send and receive mails. It has a battery backup of Non- removable Li-Ion 300 mAh battery. It can be purchased in 2 designs mainly Bangle Type and Strap Type with 2 color options that are White and Black.
