Ergonomically designed, the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos S6102 has a stylish look. Built on a 3.14 inch capacitive touchscreen has a proximity sensor on the top with Android shortcut keys on the bottom. The glossy back finish is the trademark of the Galaxy series line-up.
Samsung's proprietary TouchWiz user interface ensures that anyone will get a user-friendly experience. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the operations behind the TouchWiz. If you are familiar with Android devices, the S6102 will make you feel right at home.
Threaded text messages give you a chat-style feel on your device. Multimedia such as pictures and videos can be sent and received as well. Gmail is already downloaded on the S6102 and you can set up other emails as well.
As well as being able to view your photos in the gallery, you will also be able to do some basic editing. If you would like to upload your photos to Picasa or Facebook, it is a few clicks away. Watching shows, movies, etc. can be viewed in MP4, H.264, and WMV formats.
MP3, WAV, eAAC, and MIDI music files can all be played through the audio player. FM radio supports allows you to listen to local stations for music, news, and talk programming.
The 3MP camera has Geo-tagging so you can tag the location of a photo for easy recall. Unfortunately there is no camera flash or front-facing camera.
Video can be recorded at 24 frames per second. Its video quality leaves a lot to be desired and should be used when you have no other alternative.
Dual SIM capability allows you to hop on two frequencies at once. You have 2G GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz bands and 3G HSDPA 900 and 2100 MHz. Wireless transfer is available through Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. Alternatively, you can use the microUSB 2.0 support to transfer to a laptop or computer. You can also jump on Wi-fi 802.11 or use the S6102 as a hotspot.
An alarm, calendar, organizer, calendar, and voice memo are utility tools that come with the S6102.
Browsing the web with the Android browser gets you on the internet with ease. For additional applications, you can search the Play store and download an endless array of apps.
Though there is Google Maps on the S6102, it lacks A-GPS support.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is no dual active SIM capability. This means that if you are on a call and another person is calling the other number, they will hear “person is unavailable”. With active SIM, a caller will hear “person is busy on the other call”.
The S6102 is available for purchase for Rs. 7999 (approx., may vary). The lack of the camera flash and smaller screen size are really the only drawbacks to the S6102. Its call quality, battery life, and fast processor add up to a good buy in handset.
