Packed with a 3 inch touchscreen plus a full QWERTY keyboard, the Samsung Galaxy Chat B5330 brings the best of both worlds in one device. This candy bar style Android smartphone is made out of a plastic body. The curved edges give the device a stylish look and solid build quality.
You will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich straight out of the box with the B5330. In addition, the device is upgradable to 4.1. The B5330 has a bright interface that is known with Samsung devices. On top of the Ice Cream Sandwich UI, is Samsung's own little touches with the navigation through the device. Dubbed by Samsung, the Touch WIZ, the UI is interesting. Anyone who has used an Android device in the past will be familiar and comfortable with the interacting with it.
The phonebook memory is virtually limitless and will store address, email, and other important information for your contacts.
You can set up your personal and work emails to the B5330 through the email setup application. The easy to use interface will give you access within seconds. Texting is made easier through the physical QWERTY keyboard and you are also able to send picture messages. There is also a pre-loaded Chat On application for instant messaging needs. Otherwise, you can always download Yahoo Messenger, MSN, etc. via the Play store.
The video player supports file formats MP4, 3GP, MKV, H.264, and H.263. The resolution on the B5330 is on the low side so videos could look better.
Support for MP3, MIDI, eACC, and WAV files allow you to listen to your own music on the device. The audio quality itself is decent enough, though it could have been improved by equipping it with a better loudspeaker. If you don't have your own music to listen to, you can access the FM radio to find local stations. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack and a set of headphones that come with the device. The headphones are adequate quality for music listening, but you can always invest in your own headphones.
The 2MP camera will take the type of shots you would expect from a low megapixel shooter.
This quad band device can lock into GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. 3G internet speeds are available if your carrier has the service offering. You can also access Wi-fi, USB connectivity, and Bluetooth 3.0.
As standard with Google-based devices, the B5330 comes with A-GPS supported Google Maps.
At a price of Rs. 8490 (approx., may vary), the B5330 is well-priced for the mid-range category of devices. Battery life is rated at 14 hours of talk on 2G, 5 hours on 3G, 520 hours 2G standby, and 380 3G standby. Moderate use will leave you running to an outlet by the end of the day. With a whopping 4GB memory on-board, there is plenty of room to grow. The B5330 is a solid buy for an Android device despite the lower quality camera/video and battery life.
