The Oppo has announced a new smartphone 'R1S' in April, 2014. The box contents includes a handset, charger, ear phone, USB cable, user manual and a warranty card. The details of R1S are given below.

Design and Display

Oppo R1S is a good looking phone, as far as looks are concerned. On the back, it has a plastic body while the front is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The power button is placed on the side of phone along with volume down and up keys. It features a 5.0-inch IPS LCD display with 16M colors and provides a resolution of 720x1280 pixels and 294ppi of pixel density. There is no hard button present on the display-only three feather touch keys for Back, Options and Home.

Hardware and Software

In terms of hardware, the device is powered by a super fast Quad-core 1.6 GHz CortexA7 processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip-set and Adreno 305 GPU coupled with a RAM of 1GB. The smartphone runs on Android v4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. The device comes equipped with an internal memory of 16GB but it lacks memory card slot.

Telephony and Messaging

Oppo R1S has a support for 2G, 3G and 4G LTE fast networks with the capacity to store an unlimited number of contacts. The phone gives superb call quality all the times. There is messaging and email facility available for Oppo R1S which includes SMS(threaded view), MMS, Email and Push Mail. All of these enables you to send and receive data. The device also features predictive text input which helps in typing.

Camera and Image Quality

The back of Oppo R1S houses an excellent camera of 13MP which is featured with a LED flash, auto-focus, Geo-tagging, touch-focus, face detection and HDR while the front facing camera has a good 5MP count. The camera delivers pictures of good quality with a photo resolution of 4128x3096 pixels.

Multimedia

Games and HD videos looks very good on the display. It has an impressive music player with an easy to use interface. The sound is loud and clear with the twin loudspeakers and even better with the supplied headphones. One can record 1080p videos on to the device.

Connectivity, Apps and Battery

The phone supports 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, micro USB and NFC. It also supports a A-GPS and GLONASS for navigation. Oppo R1S comes pre-loaded with some of the Google apps like Google search, G mail, Google Talk, YouTube, Calender, Maps, Document viewer, Photo viewer and editor. The device stocks a non removable 2410mAh battery for its smooth functioning.

The smartphone is available in two color options: Blue and White.

The excellent phone is priced around Rs. 25,000. This is the approximate price which may vary.

Conclusion

Oppo R1S looks stylish, performs brilliantly and costs a bit lesser than other Android flagships. The automatic updates are the icing on the cake. Moreover, the excellent camera is the another plus point. Those looking for an alternative can also consider the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a brand name and good resale value.
