The candy bar style Nokia X2-02 is a slim device that is predominately made out of plastic. The battery cover is the only part of the device that is made from brushed aluminium. The device comes in a bright red and black color that fits easily into a pocket.
Symbian S40 is the operating system that powers the Nokia X2-02. At the entry level price point, the operating system offers stability and just enough features. The interface is easy to navigate and offers a multitude of quick access widgets. The hardware itself feels cramped and ease of use is limited.
There are a ton of options when you add new contacts to your phonebook including email, IM, birthday, images, and videos. Unfortunately, it is not easy to access your Facebook and Twitter contacts.
Due to the lack of a QWERTY keyboard, you will have to use the number keys to type a message. The predictive text works well for this. You do have basic email functionality, allowing you to create new emails, reply, and forward.
You are able to playback both images and video on the X2-02. Other than viewing and deleting these types of files, you won't find any other editing options.
The 2MP camera unfortunately does not perform well. Images turn out blurry and washed out due to the lack of focus capability in the lens.
You will be writing the same story when it comes to the video feature on the Nokia X2-02. Maximum resolution is a low 176x144 and recording is done on the out-dated 3GP format.
There is a lack of Wi-Fi and 3G on the Nokia X2-02. What the device does offer is dual band calling, Bluetooth data transfer and hands-free calling, and GPRS internet.
You will find an array of apps on the X2-02 including an alarm clock, calendar, calculator, to-do list manager, voice recorder, stopwatch, note taker, and countdown timer. The alarm is a single alarm with snooze function and the calculator is basic with simple scientific functions.
Due to the lack of Wi-fi and 3G data, regular web browsing on the X2-02 will be a waiting game. The web browser supports basic functionality as well as Adobe Flash Lite 3.0 and Java MIDP 2.1.
The lack of GPS software or some sort of mapping tool on the X2-02 will leave you disappointed in its navigation ability. At this point, the Ovi App store does not offer any compatible apps for directions or route-planning.
The 860 mAh Li-Ion battery has 9 hours of talk time and a 443 hour standby capability. Call quality is also great with an absence of call drops.
Overall, the Nokia X2-02 is a solid choice for those who are looking for a solid entry-level handset that offers great call quality and battery life. Due to the lack of features such as Wi-Fi and others that we are now all used to, this is not the handset for consumers who have come to expect those functionality in their device.
