A Low Cost Handset with 4G Network Support

Nokia is a world leading multinational corporation that deals with the production and sales of cellular mobile phones. Its headquarters are located in Espoo, Finland. The company has unveiled two new smartphones the Lumia 638 and Lumia 636 in the China. The only difference between the two phones is that the Lumia 636 is a single SIM while 638 is a dual SIM device. These are the first smartphones from Nokia that supports the 4G TD-LTE frequencies. It is expected that these phones will be available in India but no official announcement has been made by the company. Let's take a look at Nokia Lumia 638.

Design and Display

Nokia Lumia 638 is designed by using bar format that makes it easy to hold and grip. The handset is stylish as far as looks are concerned. It has a height of 129.5mm, width of 66.7mm and a thickness of 9.2mm as its dimensions along with a weight of 134 grams. The device has a FWVGA clear black IPS display of 4.5-inches with corning gorilla glass 3 protection and provides a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The front panel also features three feather touch soft keys for back, home and options.

Hardware and Software

The Lumia 638 is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with qualcomm snapdragon 400 chip-set. The phone has a RAM of 1 GB and an internal storage of 8 GB which can be expanded to another 128 GB with the help of a micro SD card. The device runs on Windows Phone 8.1 operating system which is quite powerful.

Telephony and Messaging

Nokia Lumia 638 operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, WCDMA 900/2100MHz and 4G TD-LTE frequencies. One can store an unlimited number of contacts to the Lumia 638's phonebook. The SMS, MMS and email are some of the messaging facilities available for the device.

Camera

The smartphone features a 5 MP rear camera with digital zoom and takes 2560x1920 resolution pictures. The camera delivers good pictures in day as well as night light. One can record videos from the camera as well.

Multimedia

The games and HD content looks really well on the large screen of Lumia 638. One can record and play 720p HD videos on the device. The FM radio is also there which gives you uninterrupted signals. There are number of MP3 ring-tones available for the Lumia 638. It comes pre-loaded with various apps for the comfort and entertainment of users.

Connectivity and Battery

There are various connectivity options available for Lumia 638 which includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G HSDPA+42mbps, 4G LTE, GPRS, EDGE, hands-free, micro USB and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has A-GPS support for navigation. The Lumia 638 is fueled by a Li-Ion BL-5H 1830 mAh battery which delivers a talk-time up to 16.4 hours on 2G and up to 13.1 hours on 3G network along with a stand-by time up to 600 hours.

Shades

Nokia Lumia 638 is dipped in four matte colors which are White, Black, Orange and Yellow.

Price

The expected price of Lumia 638 is Rs.12,360 approx. Overall, the Lumia 638 serves as a good package from Nokia with a reasonable price and decent configurations.
