Nokia Lumia 1020 is an out and out camera phone. It has the best camera features than anybody can think of in a phone.
The phone is sleeker and thinner the previous Nokia 920. It is easy to hold but the weight of the phone is 158 grams, which makes the phone bulkier than its counterparts do. The battery of the phone is a big disappointment for us. The battery will only last you a day if you do not take too many photos, play games, or use apps. We wish that the battery life would have been longer and better. In addition, the phone gets very hot when apps have been open for a long time like games, maps or the camera.
The Lumia 1020 runs on the now popular Windows 8 Platform, which is very simple to understand and navigate. The numbers of apps in the app store are continuously growing. The screen is only 4.5 inch, which is a disappointment for some, but there is hardly any difference between 4.5 inch and 5-inch screen. The screen resolution is 1280x768 pixels. The screen colours are good, the display is very fine, and we enjoyed watching small movies on the screen. The screen on the phone has enough space around it to hold it comfortably.
This futuristic phone supports 2G, 3G and 4G operations. The call quality of the phone is very good even in weak signals. The phone book is called the people’s app. It has all the standard features such as voice calling, video calling, social media, email, and messages all in one place. It is easy to access and you will have no trouble in making it behave the way you want. The sound volume on calls is effective enough for you to be able to hear the calls even in the nosiest of placed.
Standard messaging and email features are available on the phone.
The Windows 8 gallery is just like using the software on PC. The photo viewer comes with various options of editing the photos. The video player sorts out video based on dates taken, folders, Xbox etc. The playback is smooth at all times. The recent lit makes it easy to playback from where you left off.
Music player on the phone is very good. You can sync music from the Xbox too. FM radio is decent.
Camera is the highlight of the phone. The phone has a 41MP camera, which is huge by any standards. The camera has a powerful flash and 6X Zoom. The 41MP camera can be used through the Power shot app of the phone. There is also an option of taking 5MP photos for you to upload on social media sites. The camera is definitely a plus point of the phone. The Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) technology makes it much easier to take your favourite shots. 41MP means that the photos are clearer and sharper than any other phone camera you have in market today. You can just take the photo, zoom, crop later, and still get amazing clarity. Nokia Smart Cam app lets you stich pictures together.
Video shot by this phone are some of the best we have seen in the recent times in the smartphones and even some cameras. The device can record full HD 1080p videos. Again, the OIS technology gives you stable and very good videos even in the shakiest conditions.
The connectivity options on the phone include 3G, USB, GPRS, NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Tethering can be used in all modes to connect multiple devices. Connectivity is fast and fluid.
Nokia browser is very good and fast. Zoom features works very well. The phone comes preloaded with all your favourite apps like Studio, Flickr, and Facebook etc. Unfortunately, the Windows 8 store still does not have many quality apps.
Maps work very well on the phone but features such as street view are limited to few cities only.
The most distinctive feature of the phone is its camera. The wonderful camera gives this power packed phone an edge above rest of the pack. Another interesting feature of the phone is its ability to share pictures on any internet-connected screen. Just take a photo and point to an internet connected screen and it will appear there.
We would rate the phone a 4.7 out of 5 stars.
