Nokia's C6-01 is a candy bar touchscreen that is a bit on the chunky side. Its thick size feels a bit hollow with uneven weighting, despite its metal chassis. There is also an anodized aluminium body that attempts to give the device a quality feel. However due to the hollow-feel, it fails to deliver in giving the device a quality feel.
The Symbian OS is almost identical to the Nokia C7 or N8. A smaller screen opens up to a bit of frustration when texting on the device. You can choose from a range of themes and more via downloadable content. You have three different pages that can host up to six widget blocks per page. Pre-loaded widgets include Paramount Teaser Trailers and generic Symbian widgets.
Text, picture, push email, and instant messaging are all ways you can keep connected with the world. Due to the small screen, even the virtual QWERTY keyboard will make it frustrating to use.
You can view photos via the gallery on the C6-01. Images will look crisp and high quality. The video player will support DivX, XviD, MP4, WMV, H.264, and H.263 files. This gives you a multitude of options for viewing videos.
Music will be the experience that you expect on a Symbian based device. You can view tracks by song, playlists, genres, and podcasts. There is also the predictable link to the Ovi music store. There is nothing wrong with the C6-01 having the same music player found on other Symbian devices because it is very comfortable to use.
An 8 MP fixed lens and tin LED flash camera leave you impressed with the overall photo shots. In addition, there is a host of options including face detection, scene mode, white balance and must more. The biggest strength is the built-in photo editing software that is highly comprehensive. You can fix virtually any photo right on the device without having to resort to using a computer.
Three different resolutions are available for video capture. You can choose from HD, VGA, and very low resolution for video messages. The HD 720p captures videos at 25fps that takes highly pleasing recordings.
Connectivity is available on GSM bands 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 bands. In addition, you have access to HSDPA bands 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz. Bluetooth, Wi-fi, USB and GPRS are all available on the C6-01.
The web browser is a Symbian exclusive that struggles to load web pages. Opera Mobile would be a better browser to download on the handset.
The Nokia C6-01 has an on-board GPS that works well, though the screen-size is difficult to navigate well on.
You can pick up the C6-01 for Rs. 14570 (approx., may vary). Other than the web browser, the 680MHz ARM11 processor allows you to run the device smoothly. Calls come in very clear and crisp and the 12 hour talk time gives it one of the best among Symbian devices. This is a solid device overall, though if you can splurge a little bit more money, the Nokia C7 is a better alternative.
