In case you are looking for a basic phone with dual-SIM capability and a great battery back-up, then Micromax X234 might be your natural choice. Priced at INR 1470 (approx., may vary), the phone looks pretty catchy and flashy with a sleek design. The color choice is fairly limited as you’ll have to live with a black and red outlook. However, for a price like this, we won’t be complaining about the colors.
For a very basic phone priced at a level that is affordable for the majority, the design and build quality is OK. However, the phone weighs about 110 grams with thickness stretching to 14.5mm. This might make it a bit heavier than its contenders from the same category. The only downside of this phone is the cheap “plastic” feel that you get while handling the phone. But again, what exactly do you expect from a phone priced that low?
The phone comes with a 2 inches TFT display. This means that you won’t enjoy using the phone if you are coming from a phone that had a bigger display. However, for elderly and senior citizens, the interface might be appealing since they will be able to see bigger numbers while dialing. The phone comes with dedicated keys for music and calculator. This might make it easier for music lovers to switch to the phone’s music player without having to fumble with the main menu. The center button is the menu key that takes you to menu where options like settings, alarm clock, folder, games etc. are located. The keyboard is great if you message using your thumb but again, the plastic and fragile feel of the phone nearly ruins the texting experience.
The phone sports up to 4 GB MicroSD card. This means you’ll have ample space to save your songs, photos and videos. However, the phone’s internal contact list can only be populated with 100 entries. This means that if your contact list exceeds 100, you’ll have to save exceeding entries on your SIM card memory.
Now this is basic. And by that we mean, really basic and pretty much “raw”. The phone comes with a 0.3 MP camera but fails to deliver the quality expected from such a camera. Video recording, although available, is very basic and you’ll have a hard time editing your recorded videos after you transfer them to your PC, Mac or Laptop. The image capturing quality is also basic, but in bright light settings, you might be able to capture some watchable stuff via your Micromax x234. The major turn-off feature of this phone is a lack of 3.5mm Jack! Like you can play music or FM radio via your phone speakers but won’t be able to use your hands free to listen to them. Apart from this, the phone speakers are OK and you’ll be able to listen to music and radio clearly.
The phone sports GSM 900/1800 wit mini-SIM card slots. There are no internet connectivity options like GPRS or Edge but surprisingly, Bluetooth is there for your file transfer or compatible ear piece connectivity. Since the phone’s basic purpose is to make calls, the in-call voice is usually clear in areas of adequate signal reception.
Micromax x234 comes with a Li-Ion 800mAH battery. According to the manufacturer, the talk time is up to 5 hours on a full charge with 250 hours of standby time.
Micromax x234 is a basic phone that might give same genre handsets of Samsung and Nokia a run for their money. However, limited contact space and absence of a 3.5mm jack makes it a bit of no-go for heavy phone users and music listeners.
