Micromax claims that the MODU-T is the world's lightest 3G device. This bar style device weighs only 62 grams. It is built to feel like a solid, high quality device.
The proprietary user interface has large icons for different functions of the device. Modu-T uses a resistive touchscreen that has 3 layers and requires pressure to be able to sense an area of touch. A stylus, pen, or nail work well with the device but most users will not desire to use these pointed devices. Although the idea behind resistive touchscreens is to make it more accurate, in most cases it makes the device more difficult to use. The Modu-T is not an exception to this rule.
With support for picture, text, and emails, you have full access to any communication medium you desire. POP3 and IMPAP4 are the supported email clients that will cover every major email client.
The photo viewer is a very basic application on the Modu-T that will enable you to view pictures. You can play MP4 and H.263 format videos on the device as well.
With the ability to listen to MP3, WAV, and MIDI music files, the Modu-T will cover any of your music listening needs. There is also a stereo FM radio so you can listen to live music on the go. Audio quality will be average.
A 5MP camera will take some really good shots. There is a camera jacket that allows you to transform the device into a compact camera with a large number of image tweaking functionality.
With the camera jacket, you have video recording capabilities that take good quality recorded video.
A plethora of connectivity options allows you to have 3G, Wi-fi, and GPRS net options. File transfers are allowed using Bluetooth or micro USB port. GSM bands in 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz are supported, as well as UMTS 2100.
Applications including Facebook, Twitter, eBuddy, Flickr, Snaptu, YouTube, and instant Messenger are available on the device. In addition, there is a built-in Obligo Q7 WAP browser that allows you access to the wide world web.
While Google maps are not supported on the Modu-T, you do have A-GPS available.
The most distinctive features on the Modu-T are its ability to morph into an armband mounted music player or compact camera. This is done by inserting a range of phone enclosures that are referred to as Modu Jackets/Mates. These not only change the physical appearance of the device, but also the core attributes such as display size, memory, and battery life.
At a price of INR 9999 (approx., may vary), the Modu-T is not going to be a budget touchscreen device, but it does offer a slew of high quality features for the price.
The battery life is probably the most disappointing feature of the Modu-T. You will be lucky to get the three hours of talk time that the phone has been rated to be capable of. If you can look past that, the MODU-T is a solid buy with great music and camera capabilities.
