Micromax Canvas 4 A210 is a phone that has given tough competition to other phones in the market. For the first time Micromax has broken the 10k barrier and entered the full time smartphone market with a bang.
At first glance, the phone looks amazingly like many of the latest Samsung phones but the smooth and strong look sets them apart. The phone is comfortable to hold in hand and does not slip from the grip easily. The phone has an aluminium chassis just like the iPhone. The plastic is limited to the back of the screen. The screen is 5-inch gorilla glass, which is touch and has a clear display. The battery will last you for one day if you do not use the phone too much.
The UI of the phone is based on the Android 4.2.1 Vanilla interface. The UI is smooth and the touch screen response is fast. The screen resolution is limited to 1280x720p, which might be disappointing for some, but it does help save the battery life. The phone has a 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. The screen of the phone has a slightly bluish tinge, which makes it somewhat disappointing to use outdoors. The on screen keyboard is comfortably placed. Despite the limitations of the screen, the powerful processor makes it easy to play games on the phone with speed.
The phone supports both 2G and 3G call networks. The phone has Dual SIM. The phonebook is very modern and you can access all the contact details by selecting the contact or speaking the name to the phone.
Messaging and email is a breeze on the phone. You can view social media and other messages in separate tab. Emails can easily integrated. The phone comes with built in Google mail app that works well.
Gallery is easy to navigate. It stores the photos, videos, songs and other documents. The gallery can be accessed directly from the screen. Photo viewer is simple and gives you the option to share photos directly to social networks. Video player supports MP4, AVI, 3GP, Full HD formats. Since the screen is not full HD the video playing experience is somewhat limited. Otherwise you can watch almost every video in the phone with ease.
The music player looking like a trial to the jellybean version but it is very good. The sound is quite decent. With earphones the experience is much better than with that of the loudspeaker.
Cameras could have been the best feature of the phone but the penny pinching done by the company in this area is quite evident. The rear camera is 13MP with LED flash. There is an autofocus feature available but it takes seconds to kick in. The focusing time is even more in night shots. When you use the zoom feature the colours spread. The image quality is Ok but not great. The front camera is 5MP with ambient light sensor, which seems a waste unless you are found of self-portraits. Other features of the main camera include 6+ Face Detection, Scene Mode, 99 Continuous (Burst) Mode, Smile Detection, Photo Solid, High Dynamic Range Synthesis, 4 Direction Panorama, Effects Library, Geo-tagging, Touch Focus, Anti-Shake Technology, Sony Sensor and Photo Effects.
1920x1080, resolution videos can be recorded at 30 fps. It is smooth and responds well to quick movements.
3G, 2G, GPRS, EDGE, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi are the connectivity options available on the phone. Wi-Fi tethering can be easily achieved.
The phone comes with hoards of important features such as Music Hub, GMS Support, Game Hub, NFS Support, Fruit Devil, Dark Man, Multi-task, Swipe to Control, Proximity Dial Phone, FOTA, and Roving Eyes. Business features include Document viewer and Kingsoft Office Suite.
Android and opera mini browser are available on the phone. Both the browsers are good and display is clear. Other important apps on the phone are Hook Up, M! Live, M! Zone+, M! Security, Hike Messaging, Foneclay, ! Power, M! Unlock, Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube.
The phone comes with preloaded Google maps that are very easy to navigate.
There are many distinctive features on the phone such as blow to unlock i.e. you can blow on the screen to unlock it, and ‘Smart Gesture’.
The phone is priced at INR 17999 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market. The phone is little overpriced as it does not have the latest UI and the camera and battery performance is average.
We would rate the phone a 4.3 out of 5 star.
