Micromax Canvas 2 Plus A110Q is an improvement over the old A110Q. The phone has a better chipset and an improved RAM. We will look at more features in detail in this review.
The phone looks the same as the old Canvas A110Q. The build is sturdy and the phone is very comfortable to hold in hand. The phone has an impressive 5 inch screen but with low resolution. The battery of the phone has a talk time of 6 hours, which is decent by smartphone standards. Since the phone is priced above 10K, we were expecting a better finish to the body. The phone weighs 164 grams and feels heavy in hand. The dimensions of the phone are 147 x 76.5 x 9.7 mm. The screen is prone to scratches but with a screen guard, you can get decent use out of it.
The phone runs on Android 4.2 Jellybean software, which is not new but still comes with various UI improvements. The screen resolution is restricted to 480x854 pixels. The UI is easy to use and comes with interesting features such as Google Now, better camera interface and expandable notifications. The on screen keyboard has comfortably placed keys and typing is easy with Swype integration. Voice recognition on the device works at an OK pace and with time, it will adapt to your voice. The phone comes with a 1GB of RAM and a quad core processor. The touchscreen is very quick to response but in some heavy-duty apps, we did notice a lag of 2-3 seconds occasionally. Internal memory is 4GB out of which 1.5 GB is available for the user. Memory can be increased by adding an external memory card to the phone.
The phone supports Dual SIM and you can use both the SIMs simultaneously. Both 2G and 3G operations are supported by the phone. The phonebook is Android and simple to use. You can add emails, photos, and social media details to a contact on the phonebook. Call quality of the phone is decent.
SMS, MMS, Threaded view, IM and Email are the features available on the phone.
The photo viewer is interactive. You can easily create albums and sort photos in multiple ways. The video player is good and operates smoothly. The video player supports all popular formats but the low resolution of the screen is a damper on high-resolution videos.
FM radio with recording is available on the phone. The music player displays album and artist information. Music quality is good from the earphones but the loudspeaker volume is not very high and you might miss some calls and notification in crowded area.
The rear auto-focus camera is 8MP and the front camera is 2MP. The rear camera comes with a dual LED flash. The photo quality is good even in low light conditions.
Videos can be recorded in full HD easily on this phone. Image stabilization on the phone is not good but most of the videos turn out to be all right. You can play back videos in high resolution too.
Various connectivity options on the phone include 3G, USB, Wi-Fi, GPRS, and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi and USB tethering is available but Bluetooth tethering is missing.
Spell Check, Games, Voice Search, Sound Recorder, Calendar, Voice Input, Clock, and calendar is available on the phone.
Android browser is very good and the large screen gives you more reading space. The photos and text load quickly and well.
GPS on the phone locks in less than half a minute and the Google maps give good directions.
The phone is priced at INR 11500 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market. The phone has been competitively priced and therefore makes an attractive buy.
We will rate this phone a 4 stars out of 5.
