Micromax Andro A60 is a beautiful, stylish and very useful phone by Micromax.
The unique paddle like shape of the phone gives it a very contemporary look however; the body is made of very cheap plastic, which is a turn off. The 2.8-inch screen has a TFT resistive touchscreen. The phone weighs 105 grams and has the dimensions of 106.8x59.2x14mm. The phone has a 5-way navigation pad, start, and end keys on the side. The phone’s battery has a four-hour talk time and 240 hours standby time. The phone is comfortable to hold but if you have sweaty hand then it becomes a little uncomfortable to use.
The phone runs on Eclair (Android 2.1) software and has a 600MHz processor. The phone’s internal memory is 150MB, which can be extended up to 32 GB using a Micro SD card. The phone has a TFT resistive screen with 320x240pixle resolution. The touch screen of the phone requires quite an effort to get the apps works i.e. you have to actually press hard in some instances to gain access to a program. In bright sunlight is it very difficult to see the screen of the phone and it actually puts a strain on your eyes. The QWERTY, Semi QWERTY, alphanumeric and predictive text input keyboards are not very comfortably placed and you cannot type quickly on them. Swype like software is given in the phone but the word prediction of the software is nowhere as good as that of Swype.
The usual call log and phonebook facility is available on the phone. Voice dialling feature is available on the phone. As far as call quality goes, the phone does have some good features such as noise suppression and the call volume is loud and clear but on hands free, the call voice breaks and the other caller can also not hear the voice correctly. The phone only supports dual band operations whereas even the average basic phones in the market support four band operations. The phone supports both 2G and 3G operations.
The phone has SMS, MMS, Email, and instant messaging features. Typing messages on the phone is by no means a happy task. The keyboard is has closely placed keys and the resistive touch screen does not make it any easier to use.
The phone does not have any special features when it comes to viewing gallery options but the 600 MHz processor makes it a breeze to access the apps or play games. The video player is multi format. The playback quality on the screen is not very sharp but you can watch small videos on it without any strain.
Unfortunately, the phone does not have a FM radio, which is a big minus considering the price of the phone. The music player of the phone supports multiple formats. The sound of music is average but if you are a music lover then this phone does not offer many options. The sound from the earphones that come with the package is very low quality.
The phone has a 3.2 MP back camera with auto focus, smile detection and no flash. The auto-focus of the phone is no good and the pictures do not turn out to be crisp even in the board daylight. The absence of flash makes night pictures very grainy. Photo resolution is 2048x1536pixels. The phone has 3G capability but lack a front facing camera pinches because you cannot make voice calls.
The video camera of the phone is very basic with simple record function. The video quality is passable at its best.
The phone has Wi-Fi, 3G, GPRS, USB, and Bluetooth as connectivity options. The connectivity through the phone has a decent speed. Bluetooth on the phone is not very fast but you can transfer a number of files easily.
The phone has Alarm, calendar, calculator, and basic organizer. Other utility tools can be downloaded from the Android marketplace easily.
The phone has a WAP browser. Facebook, Gmail, Google Search etc. applications come preloaded in the phone and rest can be downloaded from the marketplace. The phone does not have an inbuilt Google talk client, which we found to be very strange since it has all other Google applications.
The phone has GPS and comes with Google maps. The GPS of the phone is not very fast but if you are not in a hurry then you can use it.
The phone is priced at INR 6500 (approx., may vary) in the India market, which is a very affordable price.
On comparing the price, features, and performance of the phone, we would say that the phone does not quite make the cut.
