Micromax Superfone Punk A45 is delivers exactly what it is named for: telephony and music. Launched in the year 2012 by Micromax this phone has been very popular with the college going young generation.
Weight wise the phone is little on the heavier side (but fits easily in your palm). The phone has a 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touch screen and the dimensions are 115 x 63 x 13 mm. The phone is bar shape and comes in white and black colours. The body of the phone is plastic and does slip from the grip easily.
The phone runs on Android Gingerbread software, which gives it a fast UI. The touch screen of the phone is not very sensitive and for some applications, we had to actually press the screen to respond. The phone as a 650 MHz processor with 256 MB RAM, which is great for normal operations but not satisfactory for playing high-resolution games. The internal memory is only 512 MB but it has a card slot, which can be used to extend the memory up to 32 GB. But with the 32 GB memory in slot, the phone becomes slow to respond to comments. The battery lasted about 5 hours with internet and call usage. Phone accelerometer is good and switches from portrait to landscape view smoothly.
The phone does not support 3G so you can forget about making video calls from the phone. The phone supports Dual SIM (2G) .The phonebook capacity is virtually unlimited and includes features like Caller groups, multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID. Call quality is very good even with only three signal bars.
The phone supports SMS, MMS, Push Mail, STMP emails. The predictive text input makes typing easy. There is no QWERTY keypad on the phone but the on screen keyboard is well spaced.
There are no photo editing features available on the phone but you can use a third party app for the same. Video player supports 3GP, 3GPP, and MP4 formats. You can sync the videos from the PC or record videos from the camcorder.
The Superfone gets its name from the high quality of music playback and it is entirely justified. FM radio is inbuilt and a treat to listen to. The music player supports MP3, WAV formats. Music player supports features like sort by album, artist, playlists etc., album art cover, and background playback
The phone has a 2MP camera, which takes good photographs in the daytime and had features such as Multi-shot, Night Vision, and Camera Sensor Setting Dimensions. Unfortunately, flash and autofocus features are missing from the phone. There is no front camera on the phone.
Video can be recorded using the back camera of the phone. The video quality is passable at its best.
The phone supports USB, GPRS, Edge, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth techniques as connectivity option. Connect phone to the computer using the USB cable is not as fast as we expected it to be.
Various utility tools such as the document viewer, Auto Power On/Off, Incoming Call Guard, World Clock, Multiple Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, To-do List
The phone has an HTML web browser, which is good enough for basic operations. In built apps include Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, MStore, Yumsters, mBuddy, Play Store and Google that make browsing very easy.
The most distinctive feature of the phone is the voice recognition software AISHA. The voice recognition adaptability is very good even with Indian accents.
The phone is comfortably priced at INR 5499 (approx., may vary), which we found a little bit to be on the costlier side.
We would give the phone three stars out of five because it lacks in speed in terms of the processor capability. With so many features, the phone should have a higher processor. Also the lack of GPS pinches. The phone should at least have A-GPS.
