Micromax announced the Micromax A35 Bolt as an entry-level Smartphone in February 2013. The handset is a dual SIM (GSM+GSM) Smartphone powered by a 1 GHz Spreadtrum SC6820 chipset.
Available in black colour, this candy bar handset features a full-capacitive TFT multi-touch display measuring 3.97 inches - marketed as 4.0 inches - that offers 65K colours at screen resolution of 800x480.
The handset comes preloaded with Android v2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and its QWERTY keyboard allows for easy texting and browsing.
The handset allows users to view received calls, missed calls, and dialled calls quickly. In terms of storage, the handset’s phonebook can hold an unlimited number of entries.
Available messaging options are SMS, email, and MMS, but Push Mail is not available.
The ‘Flash Transfer’ app on the phone allows for easy sharing of music, videos, and images (swipe ‘n’ share). The video formats of the media player are 3GP and MP4.
The music formats of the media player are Midi, OGG, Mp3, and WAV. There is a 3.5mm audio jack for connection to headphones or external speakers. The handset has an FM radio. Users could listen to music through the loudspeakers, headphones, connection to external speakers, or the supplied earphones.
The phone has both primary and secondary cameras. The former is a 2-megapixel camera that snaps pictures at 1600x1200 pixels while the latter is a 0.3-megapixel VGA camera with a resolution of 640x480 pixels.
The phone’s video camera allows users to record at a video resolution (frame rate) of just 10 fps with stereo sound.
Available connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g (and hotspot capability), and microUSB.
Users can connect to the Internet through WAP 2.0, GPRS, and HTML. The 3G connectivity and the 4-inch screen make for an enjoyable browsing experience. The phone comes with M!live, Connect4battleship2, and Texasholdem as built-in applications. Others are available over the Internet for download.
The phone’s internal memory comprises of 160 MB and 256MB RAM. Additionally, the microSD slot allows for further memory expansion up to 16GB.
The manufacturer, India’s Micromax, offers a one-year warranty as well as after sale service. The handset features an impressive 4.5 hours of talk time and 175 hours of standby, thanks to the 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery. With a price tag of INR 4200 (approx., may vary), this phone offers great value for money.
The Micromax A35 Bolt does not do well when it comes to features, but it is a good option for entry-level users who want the basic features of a Smartphone. Available in black only, users do not have many options. The phone is slick and relatively fast in terms of performance thanks to its 3G connectivity options. However, some of its close competitors are already using 4G.
