As far as the talk of cool and very affordable phones in the Indian Market go Maximus M12 stands on the top of the list. The phone has most of the modern features but still will suit your pocket without pinching.
The phone is standard bar shaped phone. The phone is very slim and easy to hold in your hand. The phone supports dual GSM networks and has dual standby features. The build quality of the phone is average and you have to be a little but careful when rough handling the phone. The design of the phone is quite attractive and it is available in blue and black colours
The phone has a 1.8-inch screen with TFT colours and a display of 128x160pixels. The keyboard keys are well placed to make typing messages and phone numbers easier. Separate menu and call keys placed around the scroll button. Inbuilt hands free feature make it easy to navigate.
The phone is dual SIM and has an extendable memory card slot that supports 4GB. Phone numbers can be saved on the card or the SIM and the call logs are stored in the phone. The phone call quality is quite good and even on hands free you can hear the sound to up to 3 feet without interference.
Standard message and T9 dictionary feature are available on the phone. Unfortunately, MMS is not available on the phone. The browser is WAP based and not very fast and therefore, if you want to check your emails then this is not the ideal choice
The phone supports standard photo formats and has a standard image viewer, which you can use to view your photos on the screen. There are no edit options for photos. The video player supports MP4 formats but the playback quality is not very good and you cannot plan watching long videos or movies on the phone.
The phone has a MP3 music player, which does not play stereo sounds at all. A 3.5 mm jack allows you to connect the headset to phone for full listening experience. FM radio on the phone catches all the channels but the signal reception is not too great when you are indoors.
The phone has a 0.3 MP camera, which does not have a very good image quality. With a resolution of 640x480 pixels if you are looking for a camera phone then this phone is not for you.
You can record videos on the camera and it supports Digital zoom. You can record videos on the phone comfortably but do not expect a great quality.
The phone as a USB 2.0 port and it also supports Bluetooth. You can easily connect to your computer and other phone to send and receive data. The USB interface is good but Bluetooth transfer range is not what you expect from a 21st century phone.
The phone has very basic utility tools like calendar, alarm clock, office applications, clock, and organiser.
The phone does not support Java but does support WAP and GPRS so the internet connection is operator based. The small screen does not have much in the navigation way.
Maximus M12 has a built in torch and supports multiple languages. The torch is pretty strong and you can easily use it to navigate in dark areas.
The phone is priced as INR 1400 (approx., may vary) which is a very reasonable price considering the lack of a higher resolution camera and basic applications. Not many phones in the Indian market have a dual SIM capability in this price range.
If you are looking for a phone to make and receive calls and listen to music one a while then you can go for this phone.
