This updated version of the VX-5400 is built into a smaller and lighter package. Its clamshell body style comes in a grey/black color. Made out of plastic, it is got the average build quality you would expect from this style of device. There is an alphanumeric keypad when you open the VX5500 with a quick button to speaker phone and a directional pad in the middle.
LG uses a proprietary user interface that is functional and easy to use. The smaller design makes the VX5500 easy to fit into your pocket and use one handed.
The phonebook capacity will store up to 1000 of your personal and business contacts. You can store five numbers per entry plus email addresses. You can also set up a picture ID and ringer ID.
The VX5500 will be able to send text, picture, and video messages. There is web-based email, instant messaging, and chat options as well.
LG places a basic gallery for saving your pictures. You can delete, view, and store you pictures on the device's internal memory. A video player is not present.
This is a very basic clamshell that does not offer a music player or FM radio.
A VGA camera will output a resolution of 640x480. There are some camera features such as self-timer, brightness, white balance, and night mode functions. Low light situations will definitely negatively affect the quality of the images. Due to the low resolution, most images will turn out less than adequate.
The VX5500 is a CDMA device that works on 850 and 1900 MHz bands. There is also microUSB support (charge only) and Bluetooth supported up to 2.0.
Some built in productivity tools include an alarm, calculator, calendar, and voice memo.
A basic WAP web browser will allow you access to the internet. There is also support for some Java based games.
There is A-GPS support on the VX5500.
This device has been on the market for over four years now. The voice clarity is good for phone calls. It has got a good solid battery life, bright screen, and is durable. Signal strength also performs very well. This phone is really for the user that wants a phone for simply calling/texting functions. Those types of users are becoming few and far between. But they are still out there and for them the VX5500 is a great device.
