With the rolling out of Optimus F5, LG has reaffirmed its quest to meet the needs of its budget-conscious customers, who are not willing to spend megabucks on high-end wireless connection. The F5 also comes in response to ever-growing demand for 4G LTE smartphones.
The LG Optimus F5’s charm is indisputable. The smartphone rocks a 4.3 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 256 ppi pixel density. The display screen has a 540 x 960 pixels resolution, not forgetting the multi touch capability. Its 8GB internal memory and 1GB RAM and a 1.2GHz Dual core processor all combine to deliver superfast performance. The gadget runs an Android v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS, which is typical of many LTE smartphones. It packs a Li-Ion 2150 mAh battery and has dimensions of 4.96 x 2.54 x 0.37 inches.
The smartphone has the typical three-button set-up. Notable features in terms of user interface include the Live Zooming feature and the QSlide multitasking tool. This guarantees unfettered access to the widely used icons.
For this handset, telephony works through voice dialling, voice commands and voice dialing. Multiple numbers per contact, unlimited entries and multiple numbers per contact are all present. Call records include received calls, call duration, call log and dialled numbers.
Messaging options include SMS and MMS and both make use of predictive text input and threaded view for better performance. For emails, there is POP3, IMAP, SMTP and Microsoft Exchange.
The gallery includes a photo viewer, video player and recordings. The video player supports file formats in MP4, H.264 and H.263. Supported image files include GIF, JPEG, and PNG.
The music player allows you to play MP3 music files via either loudspeaker or earphones. Features include album, artists, playlists and background playback. Audio quality seems good.
LG Optimus F5 comes with a 5MP digital back camera with digital zoom capability and 1.3Mp front camera. The resolution is ideal for day shots. The camera has both a video recorder and player.
The video camera has a 1080p resolution and an impartial analysis tells you that the quality is somehow below standards.
Wireless connectivity options include 3G, 4G, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, NFC, and Wi-Fi. The phone also has a v2.0 USB. Connectivity speeds include HSPDA, LTE and HSUPA.
Tools include calendar, alarm, calculator and reminders.
While the handset offers GPS and A-GPS support, it has no preinstalled Google Maps.
The upgraded version Q-Slide for multiple tasking really separates Optimus F5from the chaff.
Reliable sources say that the handset will retail for at Rs. 20,000 in major cities across India (approx., may vary). If that is true, it would arguable offer great value for money.
On the evidence of the LG Optimus F5, LG Corporation may yet dominate the budget segment of the Android phones market.
