LG Optimus 3D Max P720 is a very stylish 3D phone by LG. Since there is a lack of 3D phones in the market, the phone will surely catch your eye easily.
By looking at the phone, you will feel that it gives a very nice steel kind of look that makes you believe that it is a very strong phone. The screen is glossy and smudges easily therefore needs a screen guard. The weight of the phone is 148gms and the dimensions are 126.8 x 67.4 x 9.6 mm. The phone is not light but does not feel very heavy in the pocket also. The battery of the phone last comfortably for about 6 hours.
The phone runs on Android Gingerbread software. The phone has 8GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, the processor is 1.2GHz, and it is based on Tri-Dual architecture. The LG Android based UI scream of the phone’s 3G capabilities as the icons themselves are in a cubic shape. The screen is 4.3 inch with 480 x 800 pixels resolution and a good quality Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. The screen keyboard is very comfortable to use and navigate.
3D screen is a feature that makes this phone very interesting. The 3D viewing works only in landscape mode. If you are a fan of realistic gaming and watching 3D movies then you will love the screen of the phone. You can create your own 3D content on the phone and there are tutorials provided on the phone to help you guide to the process. The 3D viewing experience itself is quite good and you can watch movies comfortably. You can create photos and videos in 3D mode.
Both 2G and 3G options are available on the phone. The phone book can be accessed directly from the main screen. The call quality is good and the on screen dialler has shortcuts for video calls and messaging. You can directly access the calendar, social media activities and photos of contacts from the phonebook.
SMS, MMS, Email, and IM are the messaging options available on the phone. Cut, copy and paste options are available.
Both 3D and 2D photo editors are present on the phone. The video player is easy to use and 2D to 3D conversions can be done with a click. It can play DivX/Xvid files up to 1080p and for 3D; it can play files up to 720p. 3D photos and videos have a 3D symbol on them and are easily recognisable. However, the drawback is that you cannot sort the content in any way.
Music player is nice and the usual searches are available. You can sort out music but the equalizer only works when the headsets are connected. The FM radio comes with RDS support. The audio quality is good even when the phone is connected to headphones.
The phone has dual 5MP cameras in the rear. The dual camera can take 3D pictures but only up to 3MP. The quality of photos when taken in 3D mode is not so sharp and detailed. The camera is easy to access and menu options are present on the screen.
The video camera can record both 2D and 3D videos at 720p and 30fps, which is not much, but still the video recording is seamless. However, in 3D mode it sometimes lags.
Connectivity options on the phone include NFS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi tethering, USB, and TV connectivity through MHL A/V link. Network based connectivity options include 3G, GPRS and Edge.
3D phones without games will be incomplete. This phone has a multitude of 3D games such as Lets Golf 2, Nova, Asphalt 6, and Gulliver’s Travels. Google play store that comes with the phone does not have many 3D apps but the phone has 2D to 3D convertor, which works with most games.
The Android browser comes is flash enabled and therefore you can view most of the websites easily. The browsing experience with the phone is good and you can easily customize it according to your needs. Sadly, integrated Facebook and Twitter apps are missing from the phone but it does have a very useful Polaris office. You can use this app to do anything with the documents (Microsoft and PDF). Weather, news, and finance apps are other apps with the phone. For social media addicts there are Google+ and Google apps such as Gmail, Talk, and YouTube.
The phone comes with a built in GPS receiver that locks the signal within two minutes without any data connection. Google maps come preloaded on the phone and are easy to access.
The ability to convert 2D to 3D and allowing you to create 3D content is the most distinctive feature of the phone. In addition, the Polaris office app is one of the best document viewing and editing app that we have seen in the phones of this range.
The phone is priced at around INR 28000 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market. The price is quite competitive.
We would rate the phone a 4.7 stars out of 5.
