XOLO Q800 is a high-end smartphone with a budge price that will delight you.
Look wise the phone has all the looks and feel of a very smart and highly usable phone. The body is comfortable to hold in hand and does not slip from the grip. The dimensions of the phone are 67x135.5x9.6 mm with only 143.5gms of weight. The phone has a 4.5-inch screen with standard navigation buttons at the bottom. The battery of the phone is one of the lacking features of the phone. It is only a 2100 mAh battery, which lasts only about 9 hours with gaming and music use.
The phone’s specifications when it comes to talking about the UI are impressive. The phone comes with the Jellybean OS and quad-core 1.2GHz processor coupled with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. The RAM is 1GB and the internal memory is 4GB and can be expanded up to 32 GB. The phone’s screen has a 245 PPI resolution and is a qHD screen. The display is crystal clear and crisp and we have enjoyed watching movies on its not too big and not too small screen. The phone is very comfortable to use and the side and bottom touch buttons can be accessed easily. The phone is not cluttered with free apps and gives the user ample space to download the apps he/she wants. You will have to keep the scratch guard on the screen at all the times though.
The phone is dual SIM and supports both 2G and 3G networks. You can easily create the phonebook entries of as many contacts as you want. Photos and social media contacts can be added easily as is the norm with all modern phones. The speech recognition is good without you have to sweat it out to ‘program’ it according you your dialect.
SMS, MMS, threaded view; Email and Gmail are the available on the phone. We had no problems in accessing the inbox from the shortcut keys on the screen.
The screen of the phone offers an amazing photo and video viewing capacity. Both HD and no HD videos play delightfully well. The video player supports all video formats.
The music player on the phone supports MP3, MIDI, WAV, 3GPP, AAC, AAC+, WMA, AMR-NB codes. The music player of the phone is very good and you can easily entertain a small group with the sound. The earphones are of average quality. The phone has a FM Radio with stereo and RDS support and comes with YAMAHA 168 PA music system for enhanced audio experience.
The phone has two cameras one in the rear and one in the front. The rear camera is 8MP with BSI sensor that is supposed to take great photo in low light also but it does not work that way. While in the sunlight and even indoors with proper lighting, the photos turn out well but the indoor photos leave a lot to be desired. They are grainy and not very clear. The camera comes with standard features like Auto, Normal, Night, Sunset, Party, Portrait, Landscape, Night portrait, Theatre, Beach, Snow, Steady Photo, Fireworks, Sports, and Candle Light modes, burst mode, autofocus zoom and LED flash. The front camera is 1MP.
The video camera on the phone can easily record 720p HD videos. The recording is in 3GP format. The recording is good in bright light but not so much in dark light.
The connectivity options on the phone include Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, and USB. Sensors include Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Ambient light sensor and Proximity sensor.
The tools include calculator, calendar, alarm, and convertor.
Standard Android browser is available on the phone. Browsing the internet is very easy and fast. Apps can be downloaded from the android marketplace.
The phone has Assisted GPS support and Google maps are very easy to use and handle.
Great sensors and high power processor makes game play a treat on this phone. Even high end racing games and other games like ‘Mortal Combat 4’ ‘Temple Run 2’, ‘Subway Surfers’, ‘Zombie Highway’ run effortlessly on the phone. All the games can be run from the SD card and therefore do not eat up space in the internal memory.
The phone is priced at INR 12500 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market, which we feel is a very balanced pricing for the phone.
We would rate this phone a 4.4 stars out of 5. The phone lacks a document viewer, therefore you cannot view email attachments on the phone, and the camera of the phone does not live up to its mark.
