Lava Iris 405 is a relatively new entry in the mobile phone market. It is a good phone for people who do not expect many functions from their mobile phones.
Look wise the phone does not speak too much. There is a four-inch screen and the body dimensions are 125 x 63.3 x 10.6 mm which does not make sense as lot of space is wasted in the top of the screen for the speaker and the small camera. The phone has a very plasticky kind of feeling in hand. The battery of the phone barely lasted 3 hours with full use. The phone weights 210 grams, which is quite more than other smartphones.
The phone comes with Android Jellybean software, which is the latest and has a 512 MB of RAM out of which about 180MB is available for use. The phone has a 1GHZ dual core processor. The inbuilt memory is 4GB and you can extend it up to 32 GB using the memory slot. The touchscreen of the phone is good in responding to the touch. The resolution is 800x480. The phone is comfortable to hold in hand but becomes terribly hot when playing games for more than an hour. The apps are easy to access and set up. The touchscreen keyboard is very good to respond and the key are placed comfortably apart.
The phone comes with dual SIM and dual standby support, which is a big plus for the phone. Both 2G and 3G networks work well on the phone. The phonebook entries are practically unlimited and you can use the voice-calling feature to locate contacts easily. The call quality is decent although not so good in the noisy rooms.
SMS, MMS, Email, Google Mail, and IM facilities are available on the phone.
The phone’s video player can play full HD videos but the screen resolution prevents you from seeing the full effect of it. The video player plays all formats comfortably. The photo viewer of the phone is simple and you can upload directly to social networks.
The music player on the phone is good and plays all the formats. You can easily use the ear buds that come with the set to listen to music. The FM radio on the phone is also very basic.
The phone has two cameras one in the rear and one in the back. The front camera is 5MP with 8X Zoom and LED flash. It also has features like Image Stabilization, Zero Shutter Lag, and Fixed Focus. In regular daylight, the camera takes decent pictures but the zoom on the camera is hopeless and night pictures are not usable. The front camera is .3MP. You can chat on Skype with the camera but it is good for anything else.
The phone is capable of 720p HD video recording at 30fps and 1080p HD video recording at 15fps. The video recording is decent.
GPRS, Edge, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB are the connectivity options on the phone. The phone does not have a fast Bluetooth but it is decent enough to be able to transfer pictures and videos.
Calendar, Alarm, Clock, Google Sync, and calculator are the tools available on the phone.
The browser on the phone is the Android browser, which is good enough for the phone but zooming, and loading high data websites is not convenient. The phone comes loading with applications such as eBook reader, Lava zone to download movies and videos, Saavn, Fusion, Hike and Facebook and Google Play.
The integrated GPS on the phone comes with pre-loaded Google maps.
The Phone is priced at INR 6100 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market. The price of the phone is not justified with its performance. We feel that the phone is slightly overpriced.
