Lava Iris 402 is a budget semi-smartphone by Indian company Lava. The phone attempts to bridge the gap between mid-level smartphones and low budget phones.
The phone has a 4-inch TFT display. The body of the phone is smooth and curved at edges. The body built is OK although it does fell very plastic when you hold it in hand. The back and screen are prone to scratches. The front of the phone has the screen and the home, back and calls buttons at the bottom. The phone is available in grey, white, and red colours. The weight of the phone is 124 grams. The dimensions are 125.5x64.5x11.4 mm. The battery of the phone will only last you for 8-10 hours a day with judicial use.
The phone is an Android phone and runs on Jellybean software. It has a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and only 256MB of RAM. The low RAM of the phone is a big disappointment, as it does not leave much space to play games or use multitasking with ease. UI of the phone is quite simple to use. The screen of the phone has a resolution of 480x800 and it supports 4-finger multi touch. High-powered games like Temple Run 2 and Ninja do no run smoothly on the phone.
The phone supports both 2G and 3G operations. It also supports Dual SIM operations. SIM supports both 2G and 3G and SIM 2 supports only 2G operations. The call quality is decent but the loudspeaker of the phone fails miserably in crowded areas. The phonebook is basic Android phonebook with usual integrations.
SMS, MMS, IM, and email are the options available on the phone.
The gallery of the phone is well organized. It stores songs, documents, photos, and videos that are there on the phone. The video player supports 3GP, MVI, and AVI formats. Video playing is smooth but does not actually give you a cinema like experience. It plays only limited number of formats therefore you will have to convert the videos to your preferred format before transferring on to the phone. Photo viewer is simple and stores social media, camera and other photos.
The music player of the phone supports MP3, MIDI and WAV formats. Music quality is decent. The earphones that come with the phone are not of the highest quality. The phone has a basic FM Radio and you can incorporate the recording feature in it
The phone has a very basic 3.0MP camera. The camera of the phone has some basic features like Panorama, Geo-tagging, Smile Detection, Flash Support, and Fixed Focus. The photos are good enough to use on mobile and social media networks but are not high quality. The front camera is basic 0.3MP, which you can use for video calling, and video chats.
The rear camera of the phone can record videos but they are not very good and the image stabilization on the phone is very poor.
Various connectivity options on the phone include Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, and MicroUSB. It is quite easy to connect the phone to PC and transfer data.
Various features on the phone include Backup and Restore Application, Alarm, Calendar, Calculator, Sound Recorder, and Games.
Android and opera mini are the browsers available on the phone. The phone supports pinch to zoom feature and therefore you can read the text on website easily. The apps on the phone include YouTube, WhatsApp, Google, and Google Play Store to download apps.
The phone comes with A-GPS and locking to the satellite takes about 30 seconds. Google maps are adequate.
The phone is priced at INR 5000 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market. The price the phone is adequate when compared with its features.
