The market for budget phones in India has grown a lot in the last few years. Karbonn A25 is a member of the same budget group.
The phone has very futuristic look with its 5-inch screen, which covers most of its front. The back cover is smooth and slightly glossy. The camera is at the back. The back does not scratch easily and the phone feels solidly built. The dimensions of the phone are 78.6x146x10.5 mm and it weights 150grams. The weight of the phone is a little too much as even high-end smartphones do not weigh so much. The battery of the hone does not even last a day and takes up to 3-5 hours for it to fully charge.
The phone runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. It has a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. The processor is average and does not really give you the smartphone like speed. Even high end games do not run smoothly on the phone. The phone’s screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, which is good but not good enough. The viewing angles are adequate but not as good as we would like it to be. The UI is easy to customize and navigate.
Strangely the phone does not support 3G but does support dual SIM 2G options. The call quality is average. The phonebook capacity is unlimited and has many features like social media integration, voice calling, email, and photo calling.
SMS, MMS, and Email facilities are available on the phone. The onscreen keyboard is very nice and easy to use.
Video player on the phone supports MP4, 3GP. The video playback on the phone is average and the large screen makes video viewing a pleasurable task. The photos are sorted in the form of thumbnails and you can sort them through dates and folders.
Music player from the phone is good and you do not have many options for sound but you can get many third party apps for better sound experience. The FM radio is good and catches signals easily.
The phone has a 5MP camera with LED flash, digital zoom and auto focus. The daylight pictures turn out to be fine but the low light pictures are mostly unusable. The front camera is 0.3MP and can be used for Skype calls.
Video can be recorded on the phone easily. The switch from camera to video is easy. The recording is not too smooth and zooming feels stilted.
Connectivity options on the phone include Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi, GPRS, and Edge. The phone also supports USB and Wi-Fi tethering for easy and multiple connectivity.
Options include Application Backup, Scheduled Backup, Audio Recorder, Outlook Emails, Screen Saver, Wallpaper, and CLID with Photo, Calculator, and Alarm Clock. You can download more tools from the app store.
Browser is default Android browser. The browser loads sites quickly but the zoom feature does not operate smoothly. Applications on the phone include Google Play, We-Chat, Google Talk, WhatsApp, TOI, Kingsoft Office, PoPi, and PayTM.
Google maps come preloaded with the phone. They are easy to use and all the maps on the phone work well. The integrated GPS on the phone is a very useful feature of the phone.
The phone is priced at INR 6200 (approx., may vary) in the Indian market, which makes it a very attractive buy for budget phones, but the camera and battery life of the phone are very poor.
