Available in black, the HTC Butterfly has a slim 9mm profile and is extremely light, weighing only 140g. The impressive 5-inch LCD touch screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The phone runs HTC’s Sense 4+ user interface over an Android Jelly Bean operating system. With the phone’s Quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU and generous 2GB RAM, users can expect a fast-responding device that handles all manner of applications with ease.
The phone’s audio quality during calls is good, and there are no dropped calls. In addition, HTC’s Active Noise Cancellation automatically boosts audio levels in noisy environments.
The phone can send and receive SMS, MMS and Email, with unlimited storage and threaded view.
With a slick photo gallery display, image display is crisp and makes the most of the high resolution display and large screen. The video player supports all major mobile formats, including DivX, XviD, MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV playback in high definition. The phone also provides TV-out capability via an A/V link to an external screen.
Playback of various audio formats including MP3, eAAC+, WMA and WAV is possible, and the phone has excellent sound quality thanks to the inclusion of HTC’s Beats Audio sound enhancement technology. The included FM radio tuner offers recording and RDS data display.
The 8 mega pixel main camera offers face and smile detection, in addition to geo-tagging. With the ability to take snapshots with a resolution of up to 3264 x 2448, the camera also offers auto focus for macro shots and an LED flash.
With simultaneous video and image capture, the phone records in 1080p HD and stereo sound at 30 frames per second, as well as providing image stabilization. The 2 mega pixel secondary camera also records videos in high definition.
Bluetooth and USB are among the connectivity options on the Butterfly, with dual band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct also available. Alongside its hotspot capabilities, the device also offers DLNA and NFC for use with various accessories and tags.
The phone features Google Search on the home screen, and a HTML 5 capable browser. There are also social networking and video sharing apps installed, including Gmail, YouTube, Facebook and Google Talk. The phone has a dual-band 3G connection, which seems inadequate, compared to its 4G capable competitors at its price point.
Users of the Butterfly can find their location a lot quicker and more accurately with the phone’s A-GPS with GLONASS support and Google Maps.
Major mobile phone retails across India are currently selling the phone for Rs. 45,990 (approx., may vary), which is comparable to the iPhone 5, and has the screen, high speed processor, RAM and applications to back up its relatively high price tag. However, the low-capacity battery used to run this powerful device needs constant charging with regular use.
