Gionee Elife S5.5 is the world's slimmest smartphone with premium design and high end hardware features. It has been made available in India from March, 2014. The box contents includes a handset, battery, headset, charger, data cable, user manual, two screen protectors, carrying case and warranty card.

Design and Display

Elife S5.5 comes with a height of 145.1 mm, a width of 70.2 mm and a thickness of 5.55 mm as its dimensions along with a weight of 133 grams. This makes it an ultra slim and light weight smartphone. It has a frame made up of aluminum magnesium alloy which gives it the needed strength and also makes it easy to hold. Its rear panel is made up of corning gorilla glass which gives it a premium look and little fragile too.

Its left side has a power button and the volume key while the right side has only the SIM card tray. The camera has been properly affixed on the top left corner at the back. Its front has got a 5.0 inches capacitive and multi-touch super AMOLED touchscreen with a full HD resolution of 1080x1920 pixels, 441ppi pixel density and gorilla glass class 3 protection.

Hardware and Software

It is powered by 1.7 GHz Octa Core processor and 2 GB RAM. Presence of Mali 450MP4 GPU ensures amazing graphics quality. On the storage part, it has 16 GB of internal memory but does not support any microSD slot. The phone operates on Android v4.2 Jelly Bean Operating System with Gionee's Amigo 2.0 user interface running on top. It also avails proximity, compass, accelerometer and gyro sensors to have effective operations.

Telephony and Messaging

Gionee Elife S5.5 operates on 2G ( GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz ) and 3G ( WCDMA 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz ) frequencies. For messaging, it supports SMS, MMS, Email and IM. It also has the T9 dictionary and predictive text input feature that helps in typing.

Camera

The device has a rear camera of 13 MP with features like flash, face detection, smile shutte and auto-focus. It also has a 95 degree ultra wide 5 MP front camera that provide a resolution of 2560x1920 pixels.

Entertainment

For entertainment, it features music player, image viewer, video recorder, video player, games, FM radio and ringtones. It has inbuilt Google Search, Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail and Youtube applications. Other apps and games that have been included in the phone are Yahoo Cricket, Facebook, Fishing Joy, WPS, Texas Paker and Whats App. Plus availability of 3.5 mm jack further increases its capabilities.

Connectivity and Battery

The device has connectivity options for GPRS, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, EDGE, Bluetooth, USB and Handsfree. It also features GPS with A-GPS support to help in navigation. The phone has been equipped with a non-removable Li-ion battery of 2300 mAh.

Shades

The phone is available in Black, White, Blue, Pink and Purple colors at a price of Rs 22,999 approximately.

Verdict

Gionee which is just an year old in India, has quickly risen up and managed to earn a good market share. Gionee Elife S5.5 is an amazing smartphone in terms of looks but it would be much better if the company decides to avail the latest OS and a microSD slot for expansion of storage.
