Fitted with an alphanumeric keypad, the Gfive U800 is a bar style device. There is a brushed aluminium coating with plastic on the top and bottom of the device. The two inch display has a square directional button in the middle. The build quality is solid overall.
The U800 will fit very easily into the palm of your hand for one-handed navigation. Its propriety user interface is basic and you will be able to navigate the device within minutes.
The phonebook will allow you to add, edit, delete, and find your contacts. The U800 will also keep track of your missed, received, and dialled calls.
You can send a text or picture message on the U800. There is no built in email app to access your work and personal emails.
The basic photo viewer will allow you to view and delete your pictures. There is not a native photo editing software built into the U800. You are able to watch 3GP or MPEG4 videos on the U800's screen. The low resolution and small screen size will not make watching videos the best experience.
You will need to insert a microSD card in order to listen to your own music files. MP3, WAV, and MID files are all supported. If you prefer, you can listen to the radio using the FM feature. A visual FM interface gives the U800 a pleasing look. Listening via the loudspeaker, the audio will sound a bit on the tinny side. Plug in a pair of headphones, and it will sound better.
A 0.3 MP camera is capable of 640 x 480 pixel resolution. You have camera features such as continuous shooting, still shooting, automatic white balance, fluorescent white balance, and others. There is no flash feature, though an addition of one would probably not help the quality of the images. The images turn out blurry and washed out.
You can take video using the U800, though you may want to skip using it altogether. Videos turn out choppy.
Available on a GSM network, the U800 will work on 900 and 1800 bands. In addition, it will operate in DCS 850 and 1900. If you want to transfer files to other devices, you have Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 support.
There is a calculator, calendar, stopwatch, world time, unit converter and a currency exchange.
A WAP 2.0 browser will allow you to access the internet.
There is not a native GPS feature on the U800.
Gfive U800 has a solid battery life and good call quality. There aren't a whole lot of games that come with the device, so if that is something that is important to you, then you may want to keep shopping. But if your needs lie in having a good device for making phone calls and texting, this is a good choice.
