BlackBerry Curve 8310 Review

Overview

Basic yet functional

Overview of Blackberry Curve 8310

If there’s anything to get frustrated about with Blackberry Curve 8310, it is the fact that its 4-hour talk time is not enough to get the most out of its awesome features in one sitting. If only its 1100 mAh standard Li-Ion battery could be enhanced, then this would be the handset to beat in the mid-range smart phone arena. Here are some basic features that would leave you wanting for more.

Blackberry Curve 8310 Design and Build Quality

When it comes to sheer mobility and design, Blackberry rises up above the rest. It is only 111 grams and has a dimension of 109 x 60 x 15.5 mm, you can literally slip it into your pocket and it would not even make a bulge. It is, in fact, the smallest and lightest among all Blackberry smart phones. But despite being tiny, its sleek and stylish metallic finish easily grabs people’s attention. You might think that a small phone would be difficult to navigate but surprisingly, Blackberry Curve 8310’s full QWERTY keyboard is just right for people with slightly larger thumbs. Switching from one application to another is also made possible through its trackball navigation. On top of that, the Curve 8310, albeit small, features a 2.5 inches screen that allows 320x240 pixels display resolution. It is really hard to believe that such a small device could provide as much visual experience.

Blackberry Curve 8310 Connectivity Options

If there is anything that could make the already useful Blackberry Curve line of smart phones even more worthy of praises is the fact that it can connect to Wi-fi on top of other network compatibility to GPRS and EDGE signals. You can now enjoy emails, instant messaging and web browsing wherever there is a Wi-fi spot.

Telephony and Phonebook

Unlike other smart phone makers, Blackberry takes mobile telecommunication seriously by enhancing the experience of the basics. It still remains unbeatable when it comes to call quality. Blackberry Curve 8310 now also supports Bluetooth headset and the loud speakerphone does not disappoint either. When it comes to features, Blackberry’s VoiceSignal voice dialing system is one that you would really use.

Gallery, Photo Viewer and Video Player

The penultimate function of a Blackberry device involves multimedia storage and playback. For these purposes, Blackberry Curve 8310 has a microSD external memory slot that would allow up to 4 GB of storage space. This could hold a considerable amount of high audio quality music and some decent quality videos. It is easy to transfer files to the handset, you can simply drag them from your computer to your phone’s drive similar to other plug and play storage devices.

Distinctive Features of Blackberry Curve 8310

One feature that separates Blackberry Curve 8310 from its competitors in terms of multimedia playback is its built-in Roxio software which automatically converts videos to a format you can play on your device. A caveat though, an MP4 video plays really nice using the Blackberry Curve 8310 even on full screen. Some other file formats such as WMV are not as compatible though. One instance had the WMV video out of sync with the audio. This was likely the result of the conversion done through the Roxio software.
