Alcatel is a brand of mobile phones which was established in 2004 as a joint venture between TCL communication of China and Alcatel Lucent of France. The company has released the Idol X, a smartphone in July, 2013. It is available in single and dual SIM variants where the single SIM version is also called as 6040 or 6040A while the dual SIM version as 6040D or 6040E. The box packs a handset, headset, charger, battery, USB cable, user manual and warranty card. The phone is discussed in detail below.
The Idol X features a super-slim design that not only looks appealing but even feels good to hold. The dimension figures include a height of 140.4mm, width of 67.5mm and a thickness of 6.9mm along with a weight of 130gms. The overall look of phone is impressive with a nice wide full HD IPS display of 5.0-inches which gives a high resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. It has the ability to display 16 million colors and is protected by oleo-phobic coating. The ambient light and proximity sensors are there to adjust the brightness according to environment.
Housing the Idol X is a powerful Quad-core 1.5 GHz processor with Mediatek MT6589 chip-set and PowerVR SGX544 GPU. It is based on Android v4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system and has a massive RAM of 2 GB. The internal memory varies with the single and dual SIM options. The single SIM variant has a mass storage of 8 GB while the dual SIM has double of that which is 16 GB.
Alcatel Idol X runs on GSM Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS 850/1900/2100 (6040A / 6040E) and UMTS 900/2100 (6040 / 6040D) frequencies. The user can store a huge number of contacts in it's phonebook memory. The messaging and emailing facilities available for the phone includes SMS, MMS, IM, email and push mail where as predictive text input facilitates all of these.
The smartphone comes with a brilliant 13 MP rear shooter that captures every detail whether you are near or far with a 4128x3096 pixels resolution. It features panorama for stunning landscapes, HDR for bright and sharp stills, a photo editor to tweak and add filters, LED flash, face beauty, face detection, touch-focus, auto-focus and burst mode which gives a unique look to the pictures. While the front-facing camera has a 2 MP count which is capable of recording 1080p full HD videos and video conferencing.
The device comes loaded with a music player, FM radio and video player for the entertainment of the users. One can record full HD videos from the front as well as back cameras. Games and HD content looks really impressive and interesting on the large screen of Idol X. There are various social networking and other apps available in the phone for better user interface.
On the connectivity front, the phone has GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, micro USB v2.0 and GPS with A-GPS for navigation. The Idol X is fueled by a Lithium 2000mAh battery which assures you a talk-time of up to 20 hours and standby time of up to 320 hours on 2G network while a talk-time up to 12 hours and standby time up to 240hours on 3G network.
Alcatel Idol X is available in striking and soothing shades which are Flash Yellow, Flash Red, Union Jack, Slate and Full White. You can purchase this smartphone at a price of Rs.18,600 approx, may vary.
