Alcatel has released the Idol Mini, a smartphone in December, 2013. It is available in both single and dual SIM versions where the single SIM version is known as 6012X / 6012A while the dual SIM as 6012E and 6012D. The box packs a handset, headset, charger, battery, USB cable, user manual and a warranty card. The phone is discussed in detail below.

Design and Display

Alcatel Idol Mini is crafted from superior quality materials which makes it more durable and reliable. The phone not only looks good but even feels good to hold. The handset has got a height of 127.1mm, width of 62.0mm and a thickness of 7.9mm as its dimensions along with a weight of 96gms. The overall look of the phone is impressive with a nice wide IPS LCD capacitive display of 4.3-inches which provides a resolution of 480x854 pixels and a 228ppi pixel density. It has the ability to display 16 million colors and is protected by oleo-phobic coating.

Hardware and Software

Alcatel Idol Mini is powered by a Dual-core 1.3 GHz processor with Mediatek MT6572 chip-set and Mali-400 graphics. The phone has enough power to handle apps that are thrown on its way. It has a RAM of 512 MB and an internal storage of 4 GB for dual SIM variant and 8 GB for single SIM variant which can be expanded up to 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card. It runs on the Android v4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Telephony and Messaging

The device operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz or UMTS 900/2100 MHz frequencies. The phonebook can store an unlimited number of contacts. For messaging, the Idol Mini is featured with the SMS, MMS, email, push mail and IM like services.

Camera

Alcatel Idol Mini has a 5 MP rear camera which provides a photo resolution of 2592x1944 pixels and is featured with an LED flash, face detection, touch-focus, auto-focus, panorama and Geo-tagging. The camera delivers some good shots even in low light conditions. It also has a VGA front-facing camera which allows the users to video calling.

Multimedia

The smartphone comes with an impressive music and video player which gives you a better listening and viewing experience. It also comes with FM radio for the entertainment of users. There are various pre-loaded apps which gives you better user interface. HTML browser is also there to perform searches and other operations.

The connectivity attributes of the device includes GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, micro USB v2.0 and hands-free connectivity. It also features A-GPS support for navigation. The Alcatel Idol Mini is energized by a Li-Ion 1700 mAh which delivers a talk-time up to 20 hours and stand-by time up to 540 hours on 2G network while a talk-time up to 9 hours and stand-by time up to 450 hours on 3G network.
